Nong Han Kumphawapi Lake,Thailandia
Nong Han Kumphawapi is a charming lake located in the Thai province of Udon Thanai. During the winter, it is completely covered in a thick layer of beautiful lotus flowers which becomes a spectacular natural beauty.
The blossoming of these enchanting aquatic plants begins in December and lasts till the end of February. This is a magical period which dyes the entire surface of the lake with vibrant hues of soft pink to intense fuchsia. An absolute sight to be seen.
The lake is known by the name Talay Bua Daeng, which means "red lotus sea", even though the flowers are actually pink. You can rent typical small Thai boats to reach the center of the lake and row through a pre-set path designed not to damage the floating flowers. The boat rides allow you to admire the beautiful phenomenon at its peak splendor. The best time to visit is certainly at dawn, just before the sun rises on the horizon, where the heat forces the flowers to close.
The Nong Han Kumphawapi is a unique lake where you can easily encounter local fishermen in search of lotus seeds as well as see small temples erected on tiny islands in the distance. The placid waters are covered by millions of pink water lilies and populated by a great variety of birds, such as herons and hawks which contribute to making this place a romantic destination, chosen by many newlyweds as a backdrop for their wedding photo shoot.
