Ven a la Luz,Tulum
Ven a la Luz, or "Come to the Light", is one of the impressive works created by the famous and talented South African artist Daniel Popper.. This sculpture was presented in Mexico in 2018 on the debut of Art With Me, the evocative art and culture festival of the city of Tulum. The statue represents a female figure who opens her chest to reveal an interior filled with lush plants, a small Eden as a symbol of a passage towards welcome and hospitality.
The scrulpture was created to represent man's delicate relationship with nature and raise awareness towards the fragile ecosystem of the territory. The statue measures 10 meters in height and was made exclusively with organic elements, plants, timber, ropes and recycled materials. An artistic installation of great interest, which since 2021 has been on permanent display at the brand new sculpture park of the Ahau Hotel, an ecological resort located on the beach of the beautiful hotel area of Tulum.
The Ahau Sculpture Park is a ten-minute drive from downtown Tulum and is open daily from morning until sunset. Until recently, "Ven a la Luz" could be admired for free by crossing the entrance to the Resort, but the confusion created by the excessive presence of tourists forced those responsible to fence off the park. Today the cost of the entrance ticket is around 3 Euro or 60 Pesos per person, a small contribution used for the maintenance of the work and the support of the structure.
Popper's works are present in many places, some have been presented temporarily during the most famous festivals in the world, while others are permanent and can be admired in different places in the United States, but also in Croatia and South Africa.
