Rua Gonçalo de Carvalho, The Most Beautiful Street in the World

The Rua Gonçalo de Carvalho is a stunning street located in the heart of Porto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. This Palisander tree lined street spans over 500 meters with over 100 trees, some reaching as tall as a 7-floor building.

This huge tree-lined avenue is said to have been planted in 1930 by some workers in a German brewery and was immediately appreciated by locals. In 2005 the green oasis was threatened by the construction of a modern shopping center - all the residents came to the streets in its defense and in 2006 they recognized the "Historical, Cultural and Environmental Heritage of the City".

Images soon became widespread of this street and Rua Goncalo de Carvalho began to circulate the net attracting the curiosity of environmentalists and a Portuguese biologist, who in 2008 became famous by writing an article called "The Most Beautiful Road in the World".

It is thanks to these people, their continued struggle for defense and the love for these trees that today you can stroll along this wonderful "city street" and breathe clean and fresh air!

A true urban forest, a symbol of the importance that green spaces produce to reduce the acoustic and atmospheric pollution of large cities stifled by cement.
