Locanda Aescher, an enchanting refuge in the Swiss mountains

Nestled among the imposing mountains of Canton Appenzell in Switzerland, Locanda Aescher is much more than a simple refuge. This architectural gem perches on a sheer rock wall, defying the laws of physics and offering a breathtaking view of the valley below. Founded in the distant year 1860 and situated at an altitude of 1454 meters, the inn has a rich and fascinating history. Its construction is a testament to human ingenuity and determination, a destination that continues to captivate its guests with its timeless and unique beauty.

Locanda Aescher, despite undergoing various phases of evolution, has always preserved its original charm. This cottage anchored to the rock embodies the essence of alpine tradition, a destination included by National Geographic among the must-visit places to experience at least once in a lifetime. As soon as you cross the threshold of the inn, you are enveloped in the aroma of traditional dishes. It's impossible to leave this place without indulging in the famous "Älplermagronen," an exquisite Swiss pasta accompanied by cheese, onions, and apple compote. The inn also offers the opportunity for accommodation in simple yet tastefully furnished rooms using local materials, striking a perfect balance between tradition and modernity.

To reach this marvel, seemingly floating between heaven and earth, one must tackle a trail of about seven kilometers, an approximately three-hour hike. This route offers enchanting panoramas that allow you to discover the suggestive beauty of the surrounding nature. Alternatively, you can take the Wasserauen-Ebenalp cable car, reaching the top in just 15 minutes, followed by a short walk. This architectural masterpiece enchants visitors with its unique location, providing an experience that goes beyond a simple tourist visit, transforming into an unforgettable journey through the wonders of the Swiss Alps. The inn is open from May to October and closes for the winter season. For any further information: Aescher-Gasthaus am Berg.
