InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland,Cina
The Intercontinental Shanghai Wonderland, located in Songjiang District, 20 miles from Shanghai, is the deepest 7-star hotel in the world. This luxury hotel is built inside an abandoned quarry of the Sheshan National Forest Park and is built almost entirely below the surface level.
The construction, designed by the British studio Atkins (the same that led to the construction of the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai), required 10 years of work, and involved over 5,000 people including architects, engineers, designers and workers. It is a colossal work that opened its doors in October 2018.
The hotel, also known as the Deep Pit Hotel, has 380 rooms spread over 18 floors - 16 of these floors are entirely located underground and two below water level of the 88-meter-deep quarry. The two submerged levels are dedicated to the restaurant and the rooms with a view over an aquarium that is ten meters deep. The top floor instead is home to a stunning spa complex with a swimming pool and a gigantic sports center. All suites have balconies from which to admire the waterfalls that flow from the surrounding cliffs, including the waterfall located in the glass tower at the center of the hotel.
The eco-friendly roof is vibrantly adorned with trees and completely covered with a beautiful layer of grass. The plant installations are able to generate geothermal and solar energy in order to meet the daily needs of the whole resort.
