Baldwin Street has made its way into the Guinness Book of Records as the world's steepest street, thanks to its 35% inclination. Located in a suburban area of Dunedin, New Zealand, Baldwin Street is one of the most interesting streets in the world to visit.

The road is a little less than a quarter of a mile long and goes from 30 meters above sea level to 100 meters above sea level at its highest end. The bottom of Baldwin Street is completely paved and has a fairly moderate slope, while the upper section of the street measures a length of about 200 meters and is much steeper and covered with concrete to make maintenance and safety easier. Baldwin Street reaches a slope height of 1:2.86 (19° or 35%), which means that every 2.86 meters, there is a full meter of change in inclination.

The design of this road is attributed to a planning mistake of a few London designers who, without taking into account the level differences and the peculiarities of the chosen site, went directly to its construction, thus creating a road which formed a truly absurd slope.

The location of the houses along the way gives the impression that they are crooked, but they are actually perfectly horizontal. The pictures taken have been made by moving the camera's inclination or by simply rotating the image over the horizontal line of the road. It is a spirited optical illusion that every year attracts plenty of tourists, ready to take photos of this incredible road with fun and entertaining shots.
